When you buy anti-aging products you want them to work, right? But how do you know which products actually work?

You hear a lot about ingredients ... collagen, anti-oxidant, peptides ... but what does it all mean?

Ron Cummings, the founder of AminoGenesis Skin Care answers five questions to help us sort through the 'buzz' words.

1. What are the top five most common "buzz words" used by skin care companies to advertise their products?

The top five most commonly used buzz words are amino acids, peptides, collagen, shiitake mushrooms, and pomegranates

2. What ingredients work, and what don't?

Of the five buzz words, only amino acids, peptides, and collagen can make an impact on your skin.

3. Shiitake mushrooms and pomegranates are in a lot of products because of their antioxidant benefits. Why do you say they are not effective?

What part of your skin is made of mushrooms, or pomegranates?

Yes, it is true there are antioxidants in these foods, but applying them to the skin does not improve its quality or appearance.

4. Amino acids, peptides and collagen are part of the skin. So does that mean any product containing those ingredients are beneficial for the skin?

Not necessarily. Cummings says AminoGenesis is one of the only companies in the world that has skincare products with amino acids in them.

Amino acids are small enough to penetrate the surface of your skin, therefore can help improve it's appearance.

Collagen is a good ingredient to have, but most products containing collagen are actually containing animal collagen, which cannot penetrate the surface of the skin the way amino acids would.

Peptides are made up of amino acids, which makes them a positive ingredient to have, but they often are too big to penetrate the skin and therefore help benefit it.

5. What should someone look for when shopping for skin care products that will actually work?

Don't buy the "flavor of the month." There is always something "new and improved" out there and you have to wonder "why?"

Choose products that are oil-free, dermatologist-tested, and do not make claims that seem "too good to be true."
