LAKE WALES, FL -- The Phoenix Suns Amar’e Stoudemire and his Each One Teach One Foundation gave back to his hometown of Lake Wales, Florida.

Over 2,000 people from the area surrounding Polk County, Florida showed up to hear Stoudemire speak about the importance of getting an education and staying in school.

Backpacks, shoes or t-shirts were given to children ranging from 5 to 17 years old.

“I grew up in this neighborhood just like you. It wasn’t easy," Stoudemire said in front of the crowd of children and parents. "The one thing I have learned is that you can be successful in anything you do if you have an education. You are in charge of making good decisions, learning from your mistakes and determining how you want to live your life."

This Each One Teach One Foundation event marks the first time Stoudemire has organized such a large gathering in Lake Wales and Central Florida since starting to play basketball professionally in 2002.

Some of the Suns stars former teachers, coaches and teammates were on hand also for the event.
