It's not only football season, but fantasy football season too.
Time to get your buddies together for the big draft party! But first, you gotta come up with that perfect team name, and it's not always easy. There's a lot of pressure to stay a step ahead in the mind-games that go along with fantasy sports.
We spent some time scraping the web for our favorite new fantasy-football team names, all-new for 2009.
FavreDollarFootlongsThere's nothing new with Favre, except his 3rd team in 3 years and all the controversy that's caused. The genius here is matching his name with the ubiquitous Subway jingle.
White CasselIf a sub sandwich didn't make you hungry already, now you've got to think about White Castle burgers. This name is totally 2009 since new Chiefs QB Matt Cassel wasn't on anyone's radar (much less draft sheet) last year. He rose to stardom only after Tom Brady's season-ending knee injury in the first week of the season.
I Dream of ManginiThis nickname isn't new, but it's now rising with a bullet in northeast Ohio, now that Eric Mangini is head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Mangini won the Browns job less than 2 weeks after being dumped by the New York Jets after 3 seasons as head coach there.
The Boldin the BeautifulAgain, not a brand new name, but the emergence of Arizona Cardinals' receiver Anquan Boldin (heck, the emergence of the Cardinals - period!) has made this name more likely to show up in leagues far beyond the desert Southwest.
Cutler's Last StandAnother fantasy-mover, as the talented and enigmatic QB Jay Cutler moves from the Denver Broncos to the Chicago Bears. This year, Cutler's Last Stand will be on Soldier Field.
And finally, from the criminal-justice files:
ConVicks - OK, OK, that's not new. But this one is:
Burrested Development.
There's a fun website where you can add your own team-name creation, as well as rank other team names. It's
fantasyteamnames.net, and there are a lot of great names there. Beware, some of the names are PG-13 or R-rated.
