Chicago Cubs players began reporting for baseball spring training on Valentine’s Day and now the club has planned a free public practice next week at Hohokam Stadium from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Cub’s players from Carlos Zambrano to Derek Lee and the newest additions to the Cubs hope to help the Valley catch spring training fever February 24.

With most games already close to selling out and especially on the weekend, Hohokam Stadium Manager Dave Dunne expects record attendances.

"We are very excited to have the Chicago Cubs, back to back National League Central Division Champs, return to Mesa for another great spring training season." Dunne said.

"With 19 home games on the schedule, we are looking to break all of the existing MLB spring training attendance records, he said. "We are expecting more than 200,000 fans to come through the gates at Hohokam Stadium this spring to see the Cubs."

The Cubs first game is against the Los Angeles Dodgers at home on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 1:05 p.m.

Fans can get tickets online at the Cubs official website
by phone at 800-905-3315, or in person at the Hohokam Stadium Box Office, 1235 North Center Street.
