Chris Young smacked a three-run homer, and Doug Davis tossed eight innings of two-run baseball to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Chicago Cubs, 5-2, in the final regular season game of the season for both clubs.

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Diamondbacks (70-92), who finished the year last in the National League West. Stephen Drew drove in a run and scored another for Arizona, which had lost four of five coming in.

Davis (9-14) gave up six hits while fanning five and walking two to get the win. Davis had won just twice in his previous 10 starts. Juan Gutierrez picked up his ninth save of the season.

Sam Fuld went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a pair of runs batted in for the Cubs (83-78), who ended the year in second place in the NL Central.

Ryan Dempster (11-9) got rocked in five frames, allowing five runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk to take the loss. The 32-year-old had won three consecutive decisions coming into Sunday.

The Diamondbacks drew first blood with a pair of runs in the third. Chad Tracy led off with a double and scored three batters later on Drew's base hit to left. Parra followed with an RBI single up the middle.

Young's three-run homer in the fourth made it a 5-0 game. Miguel Montero and Mark Reynolds got things started with a single and a double, respectively. Young stepped to the plate and deposited a Dempster offering over the wall in left.

Fuld hit a solo homer in the fifth and drove in a run with a groundout in the seventh to cut the deficit to three.

Gutierrez tossed a perfect ninth to secure the victory for Arizona.

Game Notes

The Cubs went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, while the D'Backs went 3-for-11 with RISP...Arizona won the season series with Chicago, 4-2.
