Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov,
Colorado Avalanche netminder Craig Anderson and Washington Nationals left wing
Alex Ovechkin were named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October
18.
Bryzgalov earned first star honors after backstopping the Coyotes to a 3-0-0
record during the week and compiled a minuscule 0.95 goals against average to
go along with a .959 save percentage. He recorded a shutout in the club's 1-0
shootout win at San Jose on October 12 and turned aside 70 of 73 shots faced
in the three games.
He is 5-1-0 in six contests on the young season and is the top ranked goalie
among starters with a goals against average (1.14), save percentage (.953) and
shutouts (two).
Anderson was tremendous over the weekly period in taking home the second star
after stringing together four straight wins, while recording a 2.20 GAA and
.928 save percentage as the Avalanche continue to lead the Northwest Division
with a 6-1-1 mark.
Ovechkin was named the third star for registering four goals and two assists
as Washington went 2-1 for the week.
