The Arizona Cardinals have announced the team’s 2009 preseason schedule and it opens with a Thursday night game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers on ESPN.
The rematch of Super Bowl XLIII will be played at Heinz Field on Thursday, August 13 at 5:00 p.m. (Arizona time) with the network’s Monday night crew calling the action.
It is the second straight year the Cardinals will open the preseason with a nationally-televised tilt. Arizona opened up the ‘08 preseason by hosting the Saints on ESPN.
The Cardinals will then return home to University of Phoenix Stadium for the preseason’s second and third weeks with games against San Diego and Green Bay, respectively. The Packers will also visit University of Phoenix Stadium in the ’09 regular season.
Specific dates and times for weeks 2 and 3 have not yet been determined.
For the sixth consecutive year, Arizona will close the preseason against Denver, this time traveling to face the Broncos at Invesco Field on Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 PM (Arizona time).
The 2009 regular season schedule is expected to be announced within the next month.
