Wayman Tisdale was a very good NBA player, but people who knew him remember him as a better person.
Tisdale had a big heart and bigger smile.
During NBA All Star weekend here in Phoenix I got a chance to sit down with Tisdale and catch up with him about basketball, his music and of course his fight with cancer.
Tisdale was noticably struggling back in February, but you'd never know it by the smile on his face.
When talking about the cancer he said, "The positive people are the ones who make it through this. I've always been positive."
After his leg was amputated he learned of the difficulties for amputees to get prosthetics. Tisdale formed the Wayman Tisdale Foundation which raised millions of dollars and helped thousands of people.
His skills and that smooth left-handed shooting touch made him easy to root for and a fun player to watch on the court. His smile and heart made him easy to root for in life. He will be missed.
