It's time to talk about the firing of Bob Melvin. Look, I'll be the first to tell you, this team stinks right now!

They've clearly under performed, the bullpen stinks, and they haven't been able to hit since last season.

But how in the world does Bob Melvin go from National League Manager of the Year in 2007, to being fired in May of 2009?

Like I said, I understand that the team has been awful, but how much of that is truly Melvin's fault?

Last time I checked, the team's ace, Brandon Webb, is hurt, and the team's best every day player, Stephen Drew, is also hurt.

The loss of those two guys alone certainly would have accounted for four to six wins. And if that's the case, Bob Melvin would still be here.

The bottom line in this one is the team needed a scapegoat and this time Bob Melvin was the easy answer.

There is simply too much at stake to allow this team to keep stinking things up and playing poorly. This time, the hatchet fell on Bob Melvin.

The question is, if things don't improve, who's next?

That's Fouhy on Sports!
