Step 3: Organize, Organize, Organize
Step 3: Organize, Organize, Organize1. Store your winter clothes. Storing does not mean folding up your sweaters and stacking them on the top of your closet or pushing your winter coats to the back of your closet. Storing means out of sight, out of mind. The best way to store your winter clothes is by using Space Bags which are available at the
Container Store and
Bed, Bath and Beyond. Put in your winter clothes and suck the air out of them. Now you can stack them on the top of your closet, in a chest, under the bed, or in an extra closet.
2. Organize your Spring Clothes. The best way to organize your closet and to keep it that way is to sort everything that looks similar together. Group:
1. Skirts
2. Shorts
3. Jeans
4. Slacks
5. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts
6. Short sleeve shirts
7. Long sleeve shirts
8. Blouses
9. Cardigans
10. Business suits
11. Spring jackets
This is a lot easier to keep organized than sorting by color because when you are in a rush it’s easy to see what goes where. Also, wire hangers are a no no! Plastic hangers are best and inexpensive way to keep your clothes looking great year round.
3. Organize your Accessories. Purses can be tricky, especially when you have a smaller closet. A great tip to storing purses is to purchase belt racks, available at the Container store, and hang them vertically. This way the bottoms of your purses don't bunch up and it also works great with ties too.
For shoes go with shoe boxes. Shoe racks can mess up the shape of shoes and cause damage. However, boxes can be hassle if not organized correctly. A great solution is Witmor Clear-Vue Women's Shoe Boxes. You can get a set of 4 for $9.88 from Wal-Mart. You can see right through the box so no more opening lots of boxes to get the shoes you need for a certain outfit.
Another great option is to take a Polaroid of each pair of shoes and tape it to its shoe box. If you get into the habit of doing this the minute you bring a pair home, your shoes will stay organized and you won't have to spend additional dollars on shoe boxes…just use the one's they came in originally
