After her fiancé left her, Heather Gray said she couldn’t keep up with her mortgage and utility bills.

The couple had purchased a 2,200 square foot, four bedroom, three-bath home in Gilbert, and the home was in Gray's name.

She said the monthly payment of just over $1,700 a month was affordable when there were two incomes coming in -- but not when she was all alone.

Fearing she might face foreclosure, Gray brainstormed a way out of her situation. Her creative solution was to partner with a charity to give her home away.

Donate $100 and you are entered to win Gray’s home.

She is trying to raise $500,000 to both help a foundation and pay-off her home loan.

“I’m looking for a clean slate, I’m looking for a fresh start. So I’m going to walk away with zero, I will have no debt.”

Gray served in the armed forces for eight years, and is trying to raise money for the Murray Grey Foundation, a non-profit that helps military families and veterans financially.

Gray said the foundation came forward with a plan to raise money for her and other families.

The winner of the home will be announced at an event in March at the Westgate Center in Glendale.

Gray said she hopes to take her idea nationwide to help other people struggling to stay in their homes.

“Hopefully, it’s going to be hugely successful for myself, but that’s not the important part.  The important part is at the end of the day our military service members are being taken care of.”
