CHANDLER, AZ -- Some Chandler residents are concerned after learning the builder of their subdivision wants to downsize future homes in their neighborhood.
Residents of Reid’s Ranch at Chandler Heights and Gilbert roads fear that the smaller homes will decrease their property values and change the look of the neighborhood.
“It’s disappointing,” said Mandy McConahay. “We liked the floor plans and that is why we moved in.”
Reid’s Ranch has only nine more lots open before it is complete. The builder Amberwood Homes is getting ready to start another subdivision on the South side of Chandler Heights Road.
This week, the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved Amberwood’s proposal to offer two smaller floor plans for the remaining lots at Reid’s Ranch and the new subdivision.
Those floor plans are 13 and 23 percent smaller than the existing homes at Reid’s Ranch.
Representatives for Amberwood Homes were not available for comment Friday afternoon.
A city planner tells ABC15 that the smaller homes should not affect property values significantly.
The Chandler City Council will vote on the proposed changes to the zoning on October 22.
