Click the play button on the video window to the right to see the storyLinda Osuna has been a certified foreclosure housing counselor for two-and-a-half years.
“It’s very devastating, said Osuna. "It’s a tear jerker.”
Osuna says she meets a lot of people who need a good strong shoulder.
“The boss asked me, 'How many tissue boxes are you going through?'”
Osuna is part of the
Arizona Foreclosure Task Force. The group is led by chairwoman Patricia Garcia-Duarte. She says the group of 200 volunteers is taking on all aspects of the foreclosure crisis.
A Wednesday meeting of the group focused on three main areas; the growing number of foreclosure scams, post foreclosure assistance, and introducing the group's new
Arizona Foreclosure Information Workbook.
The Arizona Foreclosure Task Force isn’t just a group of people talking about making things happen. They’re taking action.
One example is the Arizona Foreclosure Hotline: 1-877-448-1211.
The hotline claims it will give you the information and resources you need to move in the right direction.
Right now, many of the calls involve victims of foreclosure scams. It's a major issue the task force is tackling.
Once a caller contacts the hotline, they’re transferred to a certified counselor, like Osuna, who hears the stories first-hand.
“It is very emotional," said Osuna. "It’s very heart filling at times, but then again, it’s very frustrating."
Osuna says dealing with foreclosure day in and day out can be difficult, especially when the issue hits so close to home.
You see, Osuna's son has just moved back home after losing his job and his home.
“So, I have all the compassion in the world for my clients,” she said.
