Wildfire near Green Valley burns 5,000 acres

A wildfire burning in the Coronado National Forest east of Green Valley has torched 5,000 acres.

The National Forest Service said the Melendez Pass Fire in the Santa Rita Mountains is 50 percent contained.

No structures have been lost or are threatened.

Fire crews have been conducting burnouts to remove potential fuel standing in the path of the wildfire.

The fire was lightning caused.
