Deputy state Forester Cam Hunter says 65 firefighters and two air tankers were working the Geronimo Fire Thursday morning.
The fire has burned 2,460 acres of grassland and consumed one home and at least nine other structures. It also damaged two vehicles.
The fire broke out mid-afternoon Wednesday on private property near Sunizona, just south of Wilcox, according to Hunter.
State Route 181 was closed until midnight as crews worked to get ahead of the grass fire, according to Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.
The Ash Creek School in Pearce delayed classes until midmorning Thursday.
There is no word so far on what sparked the fire and there were no reports of injuries.
Officials say another fire that broke out Wednesday near Pena Blanca Lake west of Nogales has burned about 350 acres.
