Rain assists in fight against large fire near Williams

Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 7/21 9:46 am
WILLIAMS, AZ -- Rain fell on the Cross Fire Saturday evening, dampening the south end of the 7,718-acre fire.

The fire is 18 miles southeast of Williams. It's steadily moving west within the planned management area. As of Tuesday, it was 25-percent contained.

In order to reduce smoke impacts on local and outlying communities, forest officials have decided to reduce the planned management area for now and limit ignitions within the perimeter and along boundary lines.

The lightning-caused fire is being managed to reduce hazardous fuel accumulation.

There are no closures associated with the Cross Fire.
