Arizona fire officials say that puts your home at risk in the event of a brush fire.
“If you allow the growth to intrude right up to your home, up to your house and on to it, we’re really limited in how effective we can be,” said Captain Roger Lewison of the Rural Metro Fire Department. “It’s very important that we keep an approximately 30 foot perimeter around our homes to have a space that we can defend.”
Some of the other tips firefighters have for homeowners:
- Trim your bushes up from the ground
- Clean off your roof
- Make sure the gutters are clear
- Don’t pile lumber or firewood next to the house.
