TUSAYAN, AZ -- The Indian fire on the Tusayan Ranger District has picked up significantly due to warmer and drier weather conditions.
Kaibab National Forest officials say the fire grew to about 619 acres and produced a smoke column that was visible from Grand Canyon National Park, Tusayan and Flagstaff.
The lightning-caused Indian fire started June 17.
Firefighters will be working to maintain the Indian Fire within the boundaries established for it on Wednesday. Engine crews from the Kaibab National Forest, Coconino National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park will patrol and hold the current fire perimeter.
