On Sunday, 42 firefighters from five different departments battled a fire near Heber-Overgaard in Navajo County, about 40 miles northwest of Show Low.
At about 2:50 p.m., firefighters from the Heber-Overgaard Fire Department responded to a house fire near Milepost 307 on Highway 260.
Shortly after their arrival, crews requested assistance from surrounding communities, including Taylor, Show Low, Forest Lakes and Linden, along with resources from the Black Mesa Ranger District, according to Public Information Officer Greg Adamson of the Heber-Overgaard Fire Department (HOFD).
With wind gusts up to 60 mph, the fire spread to nearby properties. Two other homes and a separate garage unit were destroyed by the fire.
Due to intense winds and the fire's proximity to Highway 260, crews shut down a portion of the highway for a few hours. It was reopened shortly before 6:30 p.m.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The fire consumed at least 25-acres, according to Adamson.
By 8:30 p.m., some firefighters had been released, while others continued to work on containment and mop up duties.
