TUSAYAN, Ariz. -- The Grand Canyon National Park is going to remain open even with the growth of two fires in the area.
The two fires, Ruby and Game Reserve, have grown to 3,456 acres, according to a Wednesday report.
One injury was reported on the complex Tuesday. The injured person was transported to the hospital and treated.
Both fires, ignited by lightning in late May, continue to grow towards each other and together are now being called the Ruby Complex.
On June 13, a cooperative effort between the Grand Canyon National Park and the Kaibab National Forest has helped aide in the management of these fires.
Smoke may be visible along state Highway 64 as well has US Highway 180. For the safety of the public a four-mile segment of the Arizona Trail from Watson Tank to Grandview Trailhead has been closed and rerouted along the southern edge of the fire area.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality continues to monitor air quality in the area.
Operations in the area are also helping to protect wildlife water Tanks, the Arizona Trail and several historical and cultural resources.
Expected weather conditions will also help crews fight the fire with cloudy conditions and a chance of moisture.
