TOLLESON, AZ -- State police say they've rescued 19 Mexican men being held for ransom in a drop house in Tolleson.

Department of Public Safety Officer Robert Bailey says a caller complained to Phoenix police on Monday about the ransom demands and the case was assigned to a task force made up of federal immigration agents and officers from DPS and Phoenix police.

On Tuesday, officers found the home in the 9600 block of West Kingman Street, south of Lower Buckey Road.

Officers watched as a man drove away in a van. As they began following him, he was involved in a minor accident and ran from the scene but was captured.

A Phoenix police SWAT team then converged on the home, whose occupants began running away.

Police rescued the hostages and arrested 11 Mexican men suspected of holding them for $2,700 in ransom each.

The same house was raided on May 10, 2008 and 53 people were arrested.
