SURPRISE, AZ – A Surprise man was airlifted to a Valley hospital after he was attacked with a baseball bat Wednesday night, according to Sgt. Mark Ortega of the Surprise Police Department.
At about 2:15 p.m., officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in the 14500 block of West Crocus Drive in Surprise.
Ortega said officers learned that a 45-year-old woman had been having ongoing domestic problems with her husband, Vincent Renteria, 45.
The woman had her friend, and her friend's boyfriend, Christopher Watson, 28, as guests at her home.
Ortega said when Renteria arrived at the home, a fight broke out and Watson struck Renteria's head with a baseball bat.
Renteria was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital and Watson was transported to Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained during the fight.
Renteria's condition was not made available.
Watson was released from the hospital and was booked into Maricopa County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, according to Ortega.
Ortega said Renteria may also face charges as a result of the altercation.
The incident remains under investigation and no other details were released Wednesday night.
