SURPRISE, AZ – Police say a 63-year-old Surprise woman missing since Wednesday has been found dead.
Surprise police spokesperson Lt. Gang said Leslie Widynowski's vehicle was discovered Sunday about 8 miles from her home on a remote side road near the US 60 and Jomax Road north of Surprise.
Gang confirmed a female body was found about 50 yards away from the car and was identified as Widynowski.
It is unclear how Widynowski died. Officials said there was no evidence of trauma or foul play.
Police say residents living near where Widynowski's vehicle was found reported seeing the vehicle a couple of days earlier, but it wasn't until they saw a description of the woman's car on the news that they notified police.
Widynowski was last seen at her home located in the 16300 block of West Sandia Park Drive around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to Sergeant Mark Ortega with the Surprise Police Department, Widynowski’s vehicle, a silver 2004 Lexus ES 330, was also missing from her residence.
Detectives learned that Widynowski's car only had half a tank of gas, she had little money with her, and there had not been any activity on her bank accounts.
According to Ortega, Widynowski is from Canada and has few acquaintances in Arizona.
Her husband Ken told ABC15 he last saw her when he left to play golf on Wednesday morning.
When he returned to the home he saw cookbooks in the kitchen and so thought she was running errands.
When she didn't return by dark he called Police.
He Leslie would always leave a note if she was leaving the home for a long period of time.
Ken added that they had two children and three grandchild, the most recent was born just last month.
He described her as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
"I love her, I love her," he said through tears, "I love her hugs, I love her infectious laugh, at night she hugs me all the time, we were blessed with just a wonderful life."
Ken said his wife wasn't feeling well on Tuesday, the day before she went missing, but that she seemed to be better on Wednesday morning when he last saw her. The couple has been married for 42 years.
They are from Canada but spend the winters in Arizona.
"W
e were able to retire early and we were enjoying life," Ken said.
Police say until the Medical Examiner comes back with an exact cause of death it will be hard to determine what happened to her. They say it is typical to investigate a death as a homicide until they can rule out murder.
