SURPRISE, AZ -- Saturday night it wasn't Halloween, but in the community park it sure felt like the ghosts and goblins were out.
G.A.I.N, which stands for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods mixed a night of trick or treating with safety.
"I'm most looking forward to driving the train," said Volunteer Kris Cross.
Cross joined hundreds of other kids and celebrated safety with a halloween twist.
Surprise Officer Chris Tovar said kids, like seniors are often targets.
"What we try to do is give people tips to make them a harder target," Tarver said.
Parents had the chance to learn more about neighborhood watch groups, and how to keep a better eye on their kids.
"We will talk to them about bad guys and how to go see the policeman," said one mother.
Robin McCart Brown said she'll teach her kids to trust police.
"Police officers are good people and that they're hear to help that's probably what we'll focus on," she said.
Officer Tovar says he hopes parents will take what they've learned here and apply it at home.
McCart Brown said said it's great everybody talks about it, but she said parents need to reiterate it at home.
In between the ice cream and train rides most agree more nights like this are needed.
Because even little Chris Cross knows you can't know too much about safety.
"Yeah I think I might learn a few things," he laughed.
