Sun City offers FREE safety training seminar

SUN CITY, AZ - The Sun City Fire Department in conjunction with Arizona Public Service, Trauma Flight and United Sun Cities Fire Fighters is announcing a free safety training seminar in December.

Solar Photovoltaic Safety for Firefighters, Investigators, Inspectors, Law Enforcement, and Utility Workers - If you work near this type of equipment, you need to attend.

Thursday, December 3rd & Friday, December 4th 2009
Classes will be from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. on both days, please select the class that will best fit your schedule.


A half day seminar will give you the tools to identify the components of a PV System, what can hurt you, and what is safe. With voltages up to 600 VDC, knowing what to touch and not touch is KEY. You will learn the difference between solar electric, solar thermal, safe shutdown procedures and several case studies.

The seminar is FREE; space is limited, so register immediately!

The instructor, Fire Captain Matthew Paiss is a 14 year veteran of the San Jose Fire Department. He has degrees in Solar Energy Technology and Fire Science, is a member of the California State Fire Marshals Office PV Task Force, teaches PV Safety for fire departments nationwide, and has lectured in Europe on Fire Safety and PV.

Captain Paiss has been published in Fire Engineering and Home Power magazines.
