SUN CITY WEST, AZ -- Sheriff's deputies arrested an 82-year-old man at a west Valley recreation center Thursday when he got into a scuffle with a deputy after refusing to leave.
Raymond Richard Moore Sr. was booked on charges of resisting arrest and criminal trespass, according to a sheriff's office report.
According to the report, staff at the RH Johnson Recreation Center in Sun City West called deputies after 85-year-old George Morell Sr. tried to use a photocopy of a recreation card to get into the center.
Morell was reportedly told he could only use a laminated pass to use the facilities and that he would have to leave.
Staff said that Morell and three other men began to "verbally threaten" them, according to the report.
A sheriff's deputy was called and found the four men on a tennis court where he asked for Morell's identification.
Morell reportedly told the deputy he did not have it, saying he had lost it.
The deputy reported that three other men got into the discussion and became "verbally aggressive towards myself and the RHJRC employees."
The deputy asked the center's staff if they wanted the four men removed and they said that they did.
When the deputy gave the men orders to leave they refused, with Moore telling him he wouldn't leave.
Moore was reportedly then told he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back so he could be handcuffed.
According documents, Moore struggled with the deputy and ended up pinned on the floor as he continued to resist arrest.
The deputy reported that Morell then got into the scuffle, trying to jump over him to help Moore.
Additional deputies were called and when they got Moore up off the floor, found blood on his hand.
Moore allegedly tried to swing his arm to get blood on the deputy and he was put under arrest.
Sun City West Fire Department firefighters were called to treat Moore's arm before both men were transported for booking.
Morell was charged with hindering prosecution and criminal trespass.
