PEORIA, AZ – Friday morning Arizona School Superintendent Tom Horne presented a national honor to a west Valley educator.
Centennial High School Principal Jim Davis was given a $25,000 Milken Family Foundation award.
One of the largest teacher recognition programs in the U.S., the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards was established in 1987 to reward, retain and attract outstanding K-12 educators to the profession.
"I have participated in several Milken award ceremonies before, and there is nothing quite like watching a surprise recipient receive a $25,000 check," said Horne.
Since its beginnings, the foundation has given out over $60 million in awards, celebrating the achievements of more than 2,400 educators throughout the country.
Principal Davis was very humble about receiving his award.
“I do not like surprises, I'm just going to be honest,” Davis said. “It's a great honor we have a great community, great students, great teachers great administration we have a great school board, we have a great city that we live in and Centennial is the flagship thank you very much.”
