PHOENIX -- Over 200 of the Valley's rising financially sound stars spent Friday on the floor of a makeshift Wall Street.

It was the Junior Achievement of Arizona's fourth annual Stock Market Challenge.

High school students from all over the Valley came to compete to see who could grow their mock-stock portfolios and create the highest net worth.

Two months of trading were condensed into a few exciting hours to help students prepare for the event.

JA volunteers have been visiting the students in the classroom to explain how the stock market works.

The kids have participated in exercises that help them grasp the concepts they needed for the SMC.

Particularly pertinent was the fact that they have learned lessons that will help them make smart financial choices as adults and - hopefully - avoid another awful economic downturn.

The Stock Market Challenge gave them a chance to practice those skills in a fun and dynamic environment.
