PEORIA, AZ -- Authorities say a west Valley road will be closed Thursday when a 75-foot Christmas tree headed to the U.S. Capitol makes a stop in Peoria.
Peoria Police spokesman Mike Tellef says the tree will make a stop around 10:30 a.m. at the Rio Vista Community Park, located at 88th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.
Tellef said the tree will be heading south on Loop 101 and exiting west on Thunderbird Road. He said there will be closures on Thunderbird Road as the 110-foot truck and trailer heads west and then backs into the park.
He said it could take around 20 minutes to get the tree into the park from Thunderbird Road.
Anyone who stops by will have an opportunity to see the tree, decorate cookies, make crafts to take home and listen to the Centennial High School Jazz Band.
The tree is scheduled to leave Peoria around 11:30 a.m. and the traffic delay should be much shorter as the truck and trailer will be able to drive straight out of the park, according to Tellef.
The tree is scheduled to head to downtown Glendale, traveling south on the Loop 101.
