Megan Lee was killed after being hit by an SUV at Mohawk Lane and 59th Avenue, north of the Loop 101.
Police said the SUV was traveling southbound on 59th Avenue at about 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hit Lee, who was riding a beach cruiser-style bicycle.
Lee was transported to John C. Lincoln Hospital where she later died.
Investigators said the driver of the vehicle that struck the girl, 49-year-old Cindy Aaronson, remained at the scene.
Police said Aaronson ran a red light, but speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
"We're looking at inattention on the part of the driver," Glendale Police Sgt. Joe Turitto said. "We don't have any indication of impairment, or drugs or alcohol. Speed does not appear to be a factor."
The girl's bike landed about 10 feet from the roadway near some bushes.
Glendale's crisis response team is helping the family cope with the loss. Firefighters remind drivers to be alert and pay attention.
"In your vehicle, remove all distractions," firefighter Megan Hanks said Wednesday. "Make sure that you're not talking on your cellphone, you're not sending a text message, not writing something down."
