GLENDALE -- More than a month after a father stabbed his wife and daughter to death, and critically wounded his four year-old son, that boy, Brian Miller, is out of the hospital.

It’s hard to tell the cheerful 4-year-old lived through the tragedy that killed his mother and sister, and left him clinging to life through two surgeries.

“He's a strong boy, that's what everybody says,” said Araceli Santoyo. “With all that he's been through, he's actually doing really well. A lot of people find that surprising. Even I do. To think that he's only four years old and he's gone through all that, but he's doing awesome. He's doing very good.”

Brian’s father, Michael Miller, allegedly told police he was possessed by the devil when he stabbed his family in May. According to court documents, Miller said he punched little Brian in the face and stabbed him the most because he loved him the most.

“I’m not dreaming,” Michael Miller told 911 dispatchers. “I’m positive. They are over there, and they’re dead. Get someone over here!”

But his Brian wasn’t dead. The youngest victim and the only survivor, people are calling Brian Miller a miracle.

His aunt is raising him in her sister’s memory.

“That’s the first thing I thought, is a piece of her living on,” said Santoyo. “I knew that’s what she would want, so I never questioned whether or not I would. I just instantly knew that’s what I needed to do.”

Santoyo said Brian hasn’t mentioned the trauma, but that she will be ready when he decides he wants to talk about it.

Michael Miller is a schizophrenic with bipolar disorder, according to court documents. He remains behind bars, charged with first-degree murder.
