PHOENIX – A pilot received minor injuries after his small experimental airplane was forced to land in a west Valley field Friday morning, according to authorities.
Daniel Valenzuela with the Glendale Fire Department said the experimental aircraft crashed around 11 a.m. near 111th Avenue and Camelback Road.
When firefighters arrived they found the pilot walking around the aircraft.
Phoenix Police Officer Luis Samudio said the pilot was taking off from Glendale Airport when the single engine plane began to have engine failure.
The pilot landed the aircraft in a open field and hit a dirt embankment, according to Samudio.
He said the pilot suffered a small cut over his left eye, on his left hand and bumps and bruises. The pilot reportedly refused medical attention and was later taken to a local hospital by a friend.
Phoenix and Glendale fire crews cleaned up fuel that spilled at the scene, according to Valenzuela.
The investigation is being conducted by the Phoenix Police Department and Federal Aviation Administration, Samudio said.
