AVONDALE, AZ -- The "End of the Summer Scorcher" concert is supposed to be to celebrate the end of 100 degree temperatures, but those in packed into the outside venue in the West Valley couldn't escape the heat.

Some concertgoers found themselves getting too hot in the 106-degree weather.

"When you're in the crowd, it's insane, it's hot," said Kristie Alder.

Another woman said she wasn't ready for it.

"I thought it was gonna be cooling down," the woman said.

Organizers from KUPD Radio Station, who hosted the event near 99th Avenue and McDowell Road, say they didn't see too many heat-related issues.

"I haven't seen anybody passed out, dehydrated or dying from the heat today," said Larry McFeelie, KUPD program director.

But Valley fire agencies reported several heat-related illnesses.  Some festival attendees saw it first hand.  Alder watched paramedics take a woman away.

"She was walking kind of dizzy, and they were holding her up to cool her down," Adler  said.

McFeelie said they offered free water to people attending.  Others brought in their own jugs of water.

While most agreed this year's concert weather was warmer than years past, many said the burden lies on concertgoers to stay hydrated.

"I think people know," Alder said. "If you're gonna be outside, bring money for water."
