GLENDALE, AZ - A couple and their grandchild were able to escape a house fire in Glendale early Thursday.

Glendale Fire Department spokesman Daniel Valenzuela said the grandparents and 5-year-old girl were awake at the home in the 7300 block of West Claremont Street when they saw their lights flickering.

When firefighters arrived, the garage was on fire.

Valenzuela said no firefighters were injured, but a pet chihuahua was killed in the fire.

He said there was a working smoke alarm in the home.

The fire apparently started in the attic and damage was extensive, according to Valenzuela.

The cause is still being investigated.
