EL MIRAGE, AZ -- A West Valley family is now homeless after a family member used a match to look for an item under a bed Saturday.

According El Mirage Asst. Fire Chief Howard Munding, the family lived in a small shed-like structure near Thunderbird Road and Grand Avenue.

He said one of the family members struck a match to look for diabetes medicine under a bed.

The bedding caught on fire and the residents thought they'd put out the fire and left the home for a short time.

When they returned, Munding said the family found the structure fully engulfed in flames.

It is unknown where the family will stay.
