EL MIRAGE, AZ – The City of El Mirage announced Friday that at 5:01 p.m., Mayor Fred Waterman resigned from his post.
Vice-Mayor Michele Kern is now Acting Mayor.
In his resignation letter, Mayor Waterman said “Recent events concerning Luke AFB have brought negative attention to our city and to me personally. I find that I have become a lightning rod for anger and negativity both from within and from outside of our city, mostly by those who do not know or understand all of the facts and issues which are at stake.”
“Mayor Waterman's public service has been commendable. We thank him for his five years of leadership…” stated Acting Mayor Kern.
