Wildfire burns in West Valley, dark smoke seen for miles

Officials said a West Valley wildfire was contained on Sunday night and is expected to be completely out by the end of the week.

The Bureau of Land Management said the wildfire is burning in the Powers Butte wildfire area, near 319th Avenue and Highway 80.

Pamela Mathis from the Phoenix district of the BLM said the fire is human caused and is burning in salt cider, which accounts for the heavy dark smoke people living in the West Valley may be seeing.

The so called “Powers Fire” has burned 260 acres so far.
