A brush fire burning at the bottom of the Gila River sent thick smoke into the Southwest Valley sky late on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire, which is being called the Robbins 2 Fire, started at about 3 p.m. near Robbins Butte Game Road and SR 85, just south of Buckeye, according to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) spokeswoman Pamela Mathis.
Mathis said the 32-acre fire is most likely human caused and was contained on Thursday.
Fire crews at the scene said the fire is burning in an area of difficult terrain.
"It's pretty thick through there, so we're going to get some more equipment in here and take care of this," said Dan Philbin with BLM.
"Structure wise we have no concerns, no threats there, so we're looking pretty good," said Philbin.
Video from Air15 showed large plumes of smoke.
"The salt cedar, when it burns it's pretty hot and will give out a lot of black smoke," said Philbin. "We got highway 85 right there and smoke can cause a problem we don't want any accidents out there so we'll get this knocked down."
The fire is being called the Robbins 2 Fire because it's in the Robbins Wildlife refuge, which is where a fire destroyed several acres last year as well.
