An Avondale man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl over the weekend, according to police.
Avondale Police arrested Osvaldo Mercado-Ortiz, 22, after the victim’s mother reported the crime.
Mercado-Ortiz lives in the same mobile home complex as the victim, which is located on West Main Street between Litchfield Road and 8th Street.
The suspect sexually assaulted the girl in the complex’s laundry facility, according to what the victim told police.
After being investigated, Mercado-Ortiz was arrested the same day the crime was reported for sexual assault, sexual misconduct with a minor and molestation of a child / dangerous crimes against children, according to police spokesman Rick Rodriguez.
Mercado-Ortiz also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said.
