Workers at LUSH Cosmetics at Scottsdale Fashion Square joined a nation-wide protest by wearing nothing but aprons on Wednesday.
They said it's all part of an anti-packaging campaign to urge customers to buy “naked” goods and purchase products free of packaging.
According to LUSH, the stripped employees hope to educate passers-by on the environmental impact of packaged goods sold in cosmetic shops, supermarkets, and other retailers.
LUSH officials say the environment is one of the biggest global issues we face today.
They said in order to combat climate change and to protect the Earth’s scarce natural resources, shoppers need to take action by avoiding packaged goods.
Employees point out that unnecessary packaging can be found at almost every retailer: loose fruit individually shrink-wrapped or on plastic trays in supermarkets, the prolific use of plastic shopping bags and the mountains of plastic bottles used for cosmetic products are all contributing to the growing environmental crisis.
According to LUSH, "naked" products are better for the environment—they are unpackaged, concentrated, last longer and weigh less than water-filled bottled liquids which take more energy to transport.
