It could have been a very unhappy New Year for a North Carolina man.
Ramin Farro almost missed out on a $200,000 Powerball jackpot.
His winning ticket would have turned into a pumpkin at 5 p.m. Monday, but he claimed his cash Friday, less than two business days before the Powerball ticket expired.
A spokeswoman for the North Carolina Education Lottery said Farro entered the July 9 drawing and forgot about it.
He had put the Powerball ticket on his dresser, but last week a friend called and reminded Farro to check his numbers.
