A plan to have Coca-Cola vending machines installed in Venice has some business owners thinking mamma mia!

The plan would allow the Coca-Cola Corporation to install vending machines in the city.

However, the 5-year, 2.1 million euro deal is causing local business owners to protest. They claim the move would threaten their business.

Venice’s city hall confirmed the report, but say that the deal has not been signed yet.

The vending machines would not be installed near popular landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square or the Rialto Bridge but at stops used by water buses. A total of 15 vending machines would be at these stops.

An estimated 20 million tourists a year come to the popular Italian city which is known for its classic gondolas.

Venice Mayor Massimo Cacciari said the deal is part of a financial strategy that is needed to safeguard the city’s artistic heritage.
