SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- If you are worried about getting the swine flu, south Scottsdale is the place to be on Satunday morning.
Seven hundred vaccinations are ready to go for just about anyone from 6 months to 65-years-old. And it comes at a time when it appears the H1N1 strain has reached its peak.
The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that over the past two weeks the number of new cases and hospital visits are down. The vaccine may be one reason behind it.
"In many areas it's beginning to decrease the burdern of illness, but in some it is still on the upswing," said Dr. Anne Schuchat from the CDC.
There have been plenty of problems with the vaccine, mainly finding it or having to wait in line to get it. Some people across the country are waiting in line for up to an hour and beyond to get it.
The number of cases may be on the decline but the CDC still warns the flu is widespread and unpredictable. They fear it may spike again duing the holiday season with so many people traveling and possibly taking it with them.
"We do not know how long this wave will last, whether there will be more waves. We know the flu season can last until May," Dr. Schuchat said.
The Swine Flu clinic in Scottsdale is set for Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon at 3634 Drinkwater Boulevard near Scottsdale Osborn Health Center.
The FluMist and FluShot will be available.
To get the mist you need to be between the ages of 2 and 49, not pregnant and have no underlying medical conditions like diabetes or heart problems.
