Just days before the switch to digital TV, Planet Earth employees are signing up new customers in droves.
"Business is booming," said owner Tom Teichert. "We've been busy. We've had installs, last night, Sunday, to 10:30 we had installers out."
This Friday, TV stations across the country will transition from an analog to a digital broadcast signal.
Satellite subscribers, however, won't be affected.
Which is why, so many people decided to sign up this week with providers like
Dish Network or
DirecTV.
The programming starts at ten dollars a month, and that's for 100 channels," said Teichert. "So they can get in for pretty reasonable."
Planet Earth Satellite usually guarantees next day installations. This week, the company has to put new customer installations off for days because of the demand.
And it isn't just satellite. Cox Cable here in the Valley has seen a spike in subscriptions as well.
"We saw an influx of people interested in getting service prior to the last deadline and now we're seeing them again getting ready for this extended deadline," said Cox spokesperson Andrea Katsenesis.
While the deadline may be bad for procrastinators, at places like Planet Earth Satellite and Cox Cable, it's proving good for business.
