PHOENIX -- What is billed as the largest of all walks in the world, the Phoenix Walk to Cure Diabetes kicked off at Tempe Town Lake Saturday morning.

Organizers expected more than 25,000 participants in the "Say Boo! To Diabetes" walk that benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Walkers could participate in a 5K walk or a 1.5 mile walk for kids.

The all-morning event also featured food and live entertainment, along with other activities.

Participants were encouraged to raise a minimum $100 and the funds raised at the walk go directly to diabetes research, according to organizers.

The walk was sponsored by GoDaddy, as well as Bashas', and Bayer Healthcare.

Officials say last year $2.1 million was raised.
