TEMPE, AZ -- After months of news about layoffs and staggering unemployment numbers, some Valley companies are hiring and even say business is booming.
“We have quite a few options available for people looking for employment,” said Mike Houghton, Vice President of Program Sales at
Direct Alliance.
The Valley telephone sales company has 300 job openings.
“It's a big increase and we're very excited because we get to bring those jobs to Tempe, Arizona,” Houghton said.
The job openings come as a new report by the National Association for Business Economics finds 25 percent of companies nationwide plan to grow their work force.
“It feels great. We are really excited about that. We feel very fortunate and very excited about the opportunity we have in front of us,” said Houghton.
Terralever, a small online marketing company in Tempe, is also starting to see business pick up. As a result, they are also now hiring.
“I think we’ve turned the tide in terms of the recession,” said Scott Miraglia, the company’s Chief Operations Officer.
Miraglia admits the company felt the impact of the recession, but is now quickly rebounding.
“Since our bottom in January or February, we've already added at least 30 percent in terms of staff and I would suspect we'll add another 20-30 percent over the next four months,” he said.
