A Tempe couple faces several charges after police say their hair salon was used as a front to sell methamphetamines.

According to Tempe detectives, Gary Scott Newton, 49, and his wife, Tracy Ann Kiser-Flotto,48, were arrested during a search of their Tempe business and home.

"Our detectives were actually able to take down a major supplier that was supplying to these particular individuals who were selling out of the business, and the subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the two individuals for selling out of the store," said Tempe Police Sergeant Steve Carbajal.

According to investigators, Newton and Kiser-Flotto operate Two Doors Down Hair Salon on Mill Avenue near 10th Street.

Those who work at a tattoo shop next to the salon expressed their concern and surprise after seeing Tempe officers raid the business.

"I just saw SWAT teams running inside and everyone here was just like what is going on," said Chris Parrish who works at Living Canvas Tattoos.

Those who work near the salon describe the owners as a nice outgoing couple.

"You would never in your lifetime have imagined that she (Kiser-Flotto) was doing that," said Mark Walters who owns Living Canvas Tattoos. "We would go in there all the time and say 'hi' and stuff. They are just nice neighbors, you know."

Due to the salon's location, investigators have concerns about who may have been buying the meth.

"We don't want this type of activity to happen anywhere in our community," said Carbajal. "This (salon) is so close to ASU, so close to a high school and close to elementary schools."

Investigators say more arrests are possible.

"The members of the Tempe Police Department worked tirelessly on this investigation. They put in a lot of hours and did some great work, but the investigation is not over," said Carbajal.

According to investigators, the couple faces several charges including possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

The business was closed Tuesday afternoon.

"It's ironic, everybody looks down at the tattoo shop you know," said Walters. "It's like, 'Oh the scummy tattoo guys… this and that,' and now here it is, the hair salon next door."

"All we want to do is cut off the supply of drugs to our community and keep Tempe safe," said Carbajal.  "That's what this is all about."
