Teen convicted in fake bomb threat at Tempe high school

Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 11/06 8:29 pm
PHOENIX -- A Chandler woman has been convicted of calling in a bomb threat in order to cancel classes at Tempe's Corona del Sol High School.

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Lauren Tamburrelli was found guilty Thursday after a three-day trial in Maricopa County Superior Court.

She will be sentenced in December for hoax, false reporting to law enforcement and interference with an educational institution.

A co-defendant -- 18-year-old Laurin Godson, of Tempe -- pleaded guilty to false reporting and is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 25.

Authorities say the two teenagers called in the false bomb threats on March 20, which caused the school to close on a Friday when Godson had a court date on another matter.

Godson reportedly had only one unexcused absence remaining and wanted to save it for senior skip day.

Other students came forward to police with information that linked the two teens to the hoax and they were arrested six days after the incident.
