TEMPE, AZ – Police arrested a woman in Phoenix on Tuesday for allegedly stealing more than $1,000,000 from her employer over the course of eight years.
Lorena Laverne Fortuna, 31, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. in the area near 24th Street and Indian School Road.
She worked as a Human Resources Manager for Trimedica International located at 1895 S. Los Feliz in Tempe.
According to authorities, from 2000 to 2008, Fortuna increased her wages without permission from the company, totaling approximately $1,120,657.
Fortuna also reportedly put her boyfriend on the company payroll from 2000 to 2003 even though Trimedica did not employ him.
Her boyfriend not only fraudulently received pay from the company, but health benefits as well, totaling in $181,210.77 stolen from the company, officials say.
Once police interviewed Fortuna, she admitted to all aspects of the theft and stated that she controlled all of the accounts the money was deposited into, according to authorities.
Fortuna was transported to the Tempe City Jail where she currently faces charges of felony theft and fraudulent schemes.
