Heather Turner ABC15.comTEMPE, AZ -- President Michael Crow announced Tuesday that Arizona State University will remain open as financial decisions are made by state legislators. ASU has nearly 20,000 students attending summer classes and programs and more than 10,000 students and staff involved in research supported by a wide range of funding sources, Crow said in a news release. He said 70,000 students will enter into the school in six weeks for the fall semester. According to Crow, more than 75 percent of ASU operating revenues come from sources other than the state of Arizona. Tuition-driven and research-driven revenues fund summer programs at ASU. ASU will now focus on planning for the fall semester, Crow said. Crow said if the state government does shutdown tonight through the beginning of the fall semester on August 24, staffing and program availability would be significantly affected. All current assignments and work of the university will continue to move forward, Crow said in a news release.
